Asset Development

Asset Development

Vintage Hills Elementary school is committed to building the Developmental Assets of all students. Asset-Building is a strength-based approach that examines 40 critical factors for young people's growth and development. Taken together, the assets demonstrate the powerful and integrated roles played by families, schools, neighborhoods, and youth organizations in shaping people's lives. Research clearly shows that the more assets a young person possesses, the more likely he or she is to engage in positive behaviors and activities, including succeeding in school!

The "It's Kool To Be Kind" campaign is one vehicle that we use to promote asset development. Our goal is to cover our campus in Kindness! Students learn specific and systematic ways of creating and following rules, living and working acording to a code of ethics, and facing and dealing with conflict. The classroom comes together as a community when individuals learn to honor differences and diversity in each and every classmate and discover that they have much more in common - values, interests, experiences, hopes and dreams - when they take time to view each other from different perspectives.

We are Bucket Fillers...no Dipping! The children's book, Have you filled a Bucket Today?, written by Carol McCloud, frames our kindness campaign. This heartwarming book encourages positive behavior as children see how very easy and rewarding it is to express acts of kindness and appreciation for one another. It is a delightful story about the power of affirming words and actions and how even the simplest act of "bucket-filling" can change the world. Drip-drop, fill a bucket today!
